Job summary

Astute People is seeking a Mechanical Technician for a gas-fired power station in Peterborough. You will diagnose faults and perform maintenance on gas turbines, pumps, valves, gearboxes, hydraulics and pneumatics, ensuring high plant availability. The role requires an NVQ Level 3 apprenticeship and experience in heavy process engineering.

IOSH is advantageous. The role offers overtime and private medical insurance as part of the benefits package.

Qualifications

• A time served apprenticeship with an NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering.
• IOSH qualification is advantageous but not essential.
• Experience in heavy process engineering environments is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Carry out fault diagnosis, repairs, and planned and unplanned maintenance on mechanical assets to maximise plant availability (gas turbine, pumps, valves, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics).
• Assist during major maintenance periods, shutdowns and outages to ensure maximum plant availability and efficiency.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using CMMS.
• Supervise and direct on-site contractors when required.

About the role

Astute's Power Team is partnered with a market-leading Energy company, to recruit for a Mechanical Technician to work at their gas-fired power station in Peterborough.

Responsibilities and duties

• Carrying out fault diagnosis, repairs, planned and unplanned maintenance activities on all mechanical assets to maximise plant availability including gas turbine, valves, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc
• Assisting during major maintenance periods, shutdowns, outages etc. when required to ensure maximum plant availability and efficiency
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records using the site's Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Supervising and directing on site contractors when required
• Working within the company health, safety and environmental processes and procedures at all times.

Professional qualifications

• A time served apprenticeship with an NVQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant discipline such as Mechanical Engineering
• A formal Health and Safety qualification such as IOSH will be advantageous but not a necessity

Personal Skills, Prior Experience and Knowledge

• Prior mechanical maintenance experience in a heavy process engineering environments such as Power Generation (Energy from Waste, Biomass, Coal, CCGT, CHP, etc), Paper Mills, COMAH sites, Steelworks, Refineries, etc
• Excellent technical knowledge of mechanical equipment (gas turbines, pumps, valves, etc)
• Some experience with planning and scoping works with the ability to complete small projects
• Experience with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems)
