Job summary

VolkerStevin, part of the VolkerWessels UK Group, seeks a Mechanical Project Engineer to lead mechanical packages for major infrastructure projects in the Anglian Water region. You will manage procurement, design review, installation, commissioning and handover, while ensuring safety, budget and schedule adherence.

You will collaborate with the Mechanical Lead, coordinate interfaces, conduct site surveys and witness testing, and drive quality and compliance across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Engineering qualification required.
• Experience delivering electrical works within utilities or water industry desirable.
• Experience in subcontractor and package management.
• Mechanical equipment installation and inspection experience.
• Strong planning, organisational and communication skills.
• CSCS card holder.

Responsibilities

• Manage mechanical procurement packages from specification through to installation, commissioning and handover.
• Produce scopes of work and manage subcontractors and suppliers to ensure successful project delivery.
• Oversee equipment selection, including pumps, valves, penstocks, lifting equipment and associated mechanical systems.
• Monitor package costs, programme performance and project risks, ensuring targets are achieved.
• Coordinate mechanical and electrical interfaces across the project team.
• Carry out site surveys, inspections, FATs, SATs and witness testing to ensure quality and compliance.
• Review and approve subcontractor designs, technical submissions and installation documentation.
• Manage defects, maintenance activities and project close-out during the defects liability period.
• Support planning, reporting and change management activities.
• Ensure the highest standards of health, safety, environmental and quality compliance are maintained throughout project delivery.
• Build strong relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
• Support commissioning, testing and handover activities to ensure successful project completion.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join our growing team supporting the delivery of major projects in the Anglian Water region.

As a Mechanical Project Engineer, working closely with the Mechanical Lead, you will be responsible for the delivery and technical governance of mechanical packages, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget. You will manage mechanical procurement packages throughout the full project lifecycle, from design and procurement through to installation, commissioning and handover, ensuring compliance with client requirements, industry standards and project specifications.

About you

We're looking for a proactive and technically competent engineer who can confidently manage mechanical packages on complex infrastructure projects.

You’ll ideally have:

• Engineering qualification (BEng, HNC, HND or equivalent).
• Previous experience delivering electrical works within an utilities or water industry environment highly desirable
• Experience in subcontractor and package management.
• Mechanical equipment installation and inspection experience.
• Strong planning, organisational and communication skills.
• CSCS card holder.
