Job summary

VolkerStevin in the Anglian Water region is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to lead the delivery of mechanical packages on major infrastructure projects. You will work with the Mechanical Lead to ensure safe, on-time, and on-budget execution from design through handover.

The role covers procurement, equipment selection (pumps, valves, penstocks, lifting gear), and coordination with electrical interfaces, with a focus on quality and health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Engineering qualification (BEng, HNC, HND or equivalent).
• Experience delivering electrical works within utilities or water industry environment desirable.
• Experience in subcontractor and package management.
• Mechanical equipment installation and inspection experience.
• Site supervision experience.
• Strong planning, organisational and communication skills.
• CSCS card holder.
• SMSTS (Desirable)

Responsibilities

• Manage mechanical procurement packages from specification through to installation, commissioning and handover.
• Produce scopes of work and manage subcontractors and suppliers.
• Oversee equipment selection, including pumps, valves, penstocks, lifting equipment and related systems.
• Monitor package costs, programme performance and project risks.
• Coordinate mechanical and electrical interfaces across the project team.
• Carry out site surveys, FATs, SATs and witness testing for quality and compliance.
• Review subcontractor designs and installation documentation.
• Manage defects, maintenance activities and project close-out during defects liability period.
• Support planning, reporting and change management activities.
• Ensure health, safety, environmental and quality compliance throughout project delivery.
• Build relationships with clients, suppliers and stakeholders.
• Support commissioning, testing and handover activities.
