Job summary

A leading civil engineering firm in Windermere is seeking a Senior Engineer to oversee water framework projects. The role includes ensuring compliance with safety and quality systems, managing site engineering teams, and preparing necessary documentation. Successful candidates will have experience in the water sector, strong IT skills, and the ability to manage safe systems of work. Qualifications

  • Previous experience in the Water sector or Heavy civil engineering.
  • Management of safe systems of works and quality management.
  • Excellent IT knowledge including use of AUTOCAD and Microsoft suite.
  • Degree/HNC, or equivalent, in civil engineering desirable.
  • Good communication skills with client representatives, site team and operatives.
  • Ability to challenge designs and resolve problems to conclusion.
  • Full Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for production / review / monitoring of RAMS / ITP's to ensure compliance.
  • Responsible for materials forecast / procurement and reconciliation.
  • Support the planning of the works to ensure awareness of when setting-out control is required.
  • Ensure the weekly / fortnightly / short term construction programmes are fully understood.
  • Assist in the management of the site engineering team.
  • Assist in setting-out control, inspections and test plans.
  • Manage setting-out accuracy, records, and instrument calibration.
  • Monitor SMP responsibilities and communicate with agents and commercial teams.
  • Lead site engineering team through task allocation and mentoring.
  • Uphold HSE responsibilities across the project.

Job description

VolkerStevin have a fantastic and exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer to join the team on our Water framework. The initial project of works will be on the Windermere and surrounding area portfolio.

Responsible For
  • Responsible for production / review / monitoring of RAMS / ITP's to ensure compliance.
  • Responsible for production of as-built documentation from site.
  • Responsible for materials forecast / procurement and reconciliation.
  • Responsible for production & issue of Weekly Progress Reports.
  • Pre-Construction:
    • Identify that all information is available and current so as not to incur delays to construction programme
    • Agree programme of works with site management and ensure early action to avoid delay and minimise problems
    • Ensure engineering team members have the correct training and understanding of HSE and quality management requirements
    • Ensure the engineering team are fully aware of the company’s HSEQ policy and requirements
  • Construction:
    • Support the planning of the works to ensure awareness of when setting-out control is required.
    • Implement Inspection & Test Plans and monitor.
    • Identify information requirements in good time to meet plan.
    • Keep accurate records of as-built dates in diaries and on construction drawings. Ensure the Engineers do likewise.
    • Keep accurate records of events affecting the programme or disrupting the work (risk events, delays, errors, etc.). Communicate on a timely basis any such event to the Agent/Sub-Agent and a member of the commercial team.
    • Ensure the weekly / fortnightly / short term construction programmes are fully understood and brief the engineers on their relevant section of works. Attend collaborative planning sessions as required.
    • Ensure that IFC drawings are available and checked at least two weeks prior to implementation.
  • Ensure that accurate setting-out and control is provided:
    • Establish accurate and clear setting-out on the ground.
    • Communicate clearly to the subcontract personnel operatives what the setting-out is and how it should be used.
    • Set-out in advance so that time is available to carry out any secondary checks.
    • Maintain the long-term setting out.
    • Maintain project stations.
    • Instrument calibration and testing
    • Maintain accurate wastage reports and keep the Agent, Sub Agent, Project Manager and commercial team informed of findings.
  • Assist in the management of the SMP:
    • Be aware of your own and the engineers’ responsibilities within the SMP.
    • Carry out spot checks personally to ensure that the project processes / systems are on track.
    • Agree actions with the Agent / Sub Agent.
    • Carry out designated responsibilities from the SMP.
  • Management of site engineering team:
    • Allocate sections of works and setting-out tasks.
    • Encourage any interest in engineering by taking time out to explain in more detail.
    • Provide guidance to the engineers on the best way to carry out their works, share knowledge and experience to help them develop.
  • Be aware of responsibilities from the HSE policies:
