Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Multi Skilled Technician

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employs around 40,000 staff across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We serve a population of over 1.15 million, extending to 2.2 million with regional and national services.

We are offering 1 permanent, full-time position (37 hours/week) with a shift pattern from Monday to Thursday (8am-4pm) and Friday (8am-3.30pm).

Department and Role Overview

The Gartnavel General Hospital Estates Department seeks a highly motivated, enthusiastic, resilient, and hardworking Mechanical Multi Skilled Technician. The role involves maintaining a wide range of building services plant and equipment, providing technical expertise, and supporting NHS GG&C Health Board’s estate services to ensure safe patient care and efficient maintenance, repair, and installation services.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Maintain building services plant and equipment.
  2. Provide technical expertise for operating and maintaining safe, efficient systems.
  3. Support estate services to ensure safe patient care and cost-effective maintenance.
  4. Inspect faults in plant and machinery, recommend repairs, and consult with managers on potential impacts.
  5. Carry out planned preventative maintenance, complete records and documentation.
  6. Adhere to NHS GG&C Health and Safety and SHTM policies.
  7. Undertake minor alterations and modifications to existing services.
  8. Manage daily workload and priorities effectively.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Recognised and registered EITB or CITB (or equivalent) craft apprenticeship or City & Guilds qualification.
  • Extensive relevant experience in building maintenance, preferably in healthcare.
  • HNC or equivalent qualification in a core subject, with additional skills as required.
  • Training to become a certified Competent Person may be required.
