Job description

Location - Washington Training Facility

About the Role Are you an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Technician, or Fluid Power Engineer looking to take the next step in your career and share your industry knowledge with the next generation of engineers?

This is a fantastic opportunity to move away from the day-to-day pressures of the shop floor and use your hands‑on engineering experience to inspire and develop future technicians.

We're looking for someone with a strong background in mechanical maintenance, fault finding, hydraulics, pneumatics, and industrial systems. Someone who understands how machinery operates, enjoys problem solving, and takes pride in helping others develop their technical skills.

You don’t need previous teaching experience. Full training and support will be provided to help you transition into the role of Engineering Instructor / Assessor.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Delivering practical engineering training across Mechanical Maintenance, Mechanical Systems, Hand Fitting, and Fluid Power principles.

  • Demonstrating and assessing skills including mechanical assembly, component replacement, fault diagnosis, maintenance procedures, and repair techniques.

  • Supporting learners through Level 2 and Level 3 Engineering programmes, including Engineering Operative and Performing Engineering Operations standards.

  • Teaching key mechanical engineering principles including:

  • Hydraulics and pneumatics

  • Pumps, valves, and actuators

  • Conveyors and industrial machinery

  • Preventative and reactive maintenance techniques

  • Supporting apprentices to develop the technical and professional skills required for successful engineering careers.

  • Maintaining a safe, organised, and professional workshop environment.

  • Using digital systems and e-portfolios to monitor learner progress and achievement (full training provided).

  • Helping maintain workshop equipment, machinery, tools, and learning resources.

  • Promoting Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Safeguarding within the learning environment.

What We're Looking For

  • Level 3 Engineering qualification (Mechanical Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, Fitting, or similar).

  • Strong practical experience within mechanical maintenance, industrial engineering, plant engineering, or mechanical fitting

  • A genuine passion for engineering and developing the next generation of technicians.

  • Level 3 Teaching or Assessing qualification (AET, TAQA, PTLLS, or equivalent).

  • Previous experience mentoring apprentices, trainees, or junior engineers.

  • Experience within a manufacturing, maintenance, production, or industrial environment.

Why Join Us?

  • Competitive salary of £38,000 - £41,500 DOE.

  • Excellent training and support package for engineers moving into education.

  • Opportunity to develop a rewarding career away from the tools while staying connected to engineering.

  • Company pension and wellbeing programme.

  • On-site parking.

  • Employee discount and referral schemes.

  • Monday-Friday daytime hours with no shifts, weekends, or callouts.
