Job summary

Saab UK is seeking a Mechanical Fitter to join the Seaeye underwater robotics unit in Fareham. You will assemble a range of mechanical assemblies to customer specifications, including Tether Management Systems and ROV chassis, guided by engineering drawings and work instructions.

You will use hand tools and basic machining/electrical assembly skills, maintain 6S standards, and support development projects. Occasional work at test locations or customer sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret engineering drawings and work instructions to ensure assemblies meet standards.
• Use hand and workshop tools (drills, files, screwdrivers, spanners, measuring gear).
• Basic machining operations; milling/turning experience beneficial.
• Undertake basic electrical assembly such as earth bonding and continuity testing with training.
• Maintain high 6S standards, housekeeping and tool control.
• Manage time effectively to maximise productivity, quality and delivery.

Responsibilities

• Assemble large Tether Management Systems and ROV chassis per drawings and instructions.
• Carry out mechanical assembly, align heavy sub-assemblies and secure components.
• Route, bend and connect hydraulic hoses and pneumatic lines.
• Route and secure wire harnesses, cable routing.
• Fill reservoirs, bleed systems and check for leaks.
• Support R&D, prototypes, and product improvement projects as needed.
• Work onsite at test locations or customer sites when required.
• Collaborate in a small multidisciplinary team and resolve day-to-day challenges.
