Job summary

Rullion is seeking an experienced Field Engineer - Mechanical for an ongoing contract at Hinkley Point C, Somerset. You will join the Site Quality Surveillance team, delivering mechanical installation surveillance and ensuring works meet drawings, specs and Quality Control Plans.

The role requires a strong background in valves, heat exchangers and bolted connections, with 10+ years in large industrial projects.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Field Engineer with strong installation, inspection or surveillance experience.
• Experience with valves, heat exchangers and bolted connections is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of QC plans, drawings and technical documentation is essential.

Responsibilities

• Carry out construction surveillance of mechanical installation activities.
• Verify works against drawings, specs and QC plans.
• Inspect equipment, materials and completed installations.
• Review contractor performance against QC plans and inspection requirements.
• Ensure Quality Inspection Records are completed before works progress.
• Identify deviations and non-conformances and escalate appropriately.
• Maintain clear surveillance records and reports.

Role: Field Engineer - Mechanical Engineer Position: Contract Location: Hinkley Point C, Somerset

Duration: Ongoing Contract

Day Rate: Up to £350 p/d PAYE + 36 days annual leave // Up to £475.72 p/d Umbrella

Are you an experienced Mechanical Field Engineer, Mechanical Inspector, Mechanical Supervisor or Construction Engineer with a strong background in the installation, inspection and delivery of mechanical equipment?

Do you have practical experience working with equipment such as valves, heat exchangers, bolted connections, torquing/tensioning, beam cranes, drilling and mechanical anchorages?

We are recruiting for an experienced Field Engineer - Mechanical to join the Site Quality Surveillance team at Hinkley Point C, supporting the construction of one of the largest and most complex engineering projects currently underway in the UK.

This opportunity would suit an experienced mechanical professional from sectors including:

Nuclear | Power Generation | Oil & Gas | Refining | Petrochemical | Chemical | Pharmaceutical | Process | Water

Previous civil nuclear experience is not essential. Experience gained within power stations, refineries or other highly regulated major construction environments would be particularly relevant.

The Role

As a Mechanical Field Engineer, you will provide construction surveillance across mechanical installation activities, giving confidence that works are being completed safely, correctly and in accordance with approved technical requirements, drawings, specifications and Quality Control Plans.

You will work closely with contractors, construction teams, quality personnel and other project stakeholders, maintaining a strong presence in the field and identifying potential quality or installation issues before they impact programme delivery.

The mechanical scope can include:

• Valves and associated mechanical equipment
• Heat exchangers
• Static and rotating equipment
• Mechanical plant installation and erection
• Pipework and pipe supports
• Bolted connections and controlled torquing/tensioning
• Beam cranes and mechanical handling equipment
• Drilling and mechanical anchorages
• Welding and associated installation activities
• Mechanical assemblies and supporting steelwork

What You’ll Be Doing

You will:

• Carry out planned, notified and continuous construction surveillance of mechanical installation activities.
• Verify that works are being completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, technical requirements and contractor work information.
• Inspect mechanical equipment, materials and completed installation activities.
• Review contractor performance against approved Quality Control Plans and inspection requirements.
• Ensure appropriate Quality Inspection Records are completed and agreed before works are covered or progressed.
• Identify deviations, defects and potential non-conformances and elevate these through the appropriate quality processes.
• Proactively identify emerging quality issues and support corrective or preventative action.
• Review and understand construction drawings, specifications, installation procedures and technical documentation.
• Monitor workmanship and installation standards across mechanical construction packages.
• Liaise closely with contractors, Construction Superintendents, Quality teams and other site stakeholders.
• Provide clear, accurate and concise surveillance records and reports.
• Ensure technical or design decisions identified in the field are progressed through the correct engineering and quality processes.
• Support a strong culture of nuclear safety, quality and continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For

We are particularly interested in candidates with substantial mechanical construction experience, ideally around 10+ years, gained on major industrial projects.

You should have strong practical knowledge of mechanical installation activities and ideally experience involving several of the following:

• Valves
• Heat exchangers
• Bolting, bolt torquing or tensioning
• Mechanical anchorages
Drilling and fixing systems
• Beam cranes or mechanical handling systems
• Static and rotating equipment
• Pipework and pipe supports
• Mechanical equipment erection and installation

Essential Experience

You will ideally bring:

• A Mechanical Engineering qualification, recognised vocational qualification or equivalent experience.
• Significant experience within mechanical construction, installation, inspection or surveillance.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment installation and construction methods.
• Experience working within a highly regulated or quality-controlled environment.
• An understanding of Quality Assurance principles, ideally including ISO 9001.
• Experience reading engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Strong attention to detail when inspecting workmanship, equipment and materials.
• The confidence to challenge poor quality or non-compliant work appropriately.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to build effective relationships with contractors while remaining independent and objective.
