The NNB Surveillance Field Engineer will Carry out Surveillance on construction activities performed by a Contractor on Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Plant Construction Site. The Activities is relating to the Construction/Installation/Assembly of Mechanical Equipment (such as Static and Rotating Equipment, Pipes, Pipes Support, including the welding process etc.). He/She will perform Surveillance to give confidence that the Activities are performed in accordance with the Contractor’s Work Information. He/She will form part of a team with the primary role to deliver the Team Lead duties described in the contract and ensure that HPC Quality needs, targets and expectations are met.

You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Checking the Works are constructed in accordance with the Contractor’s Work Information and notify the Construction Superintendent of deviation and non-conformance request requirements.
  • Submitting details of any non-conformance request requirements to assist in the issuing of non-conformance reports.
  • Proactively communicate with other stakeholders of the considered scope of work, maintain good communication links and ensure surveillance is timely reported.
  • Contributing surveillance information to support KPI indicators.
  • Endeavouring to identify potential Quality issues before they arrive to enable mitigating actions.
  • Supporting team instructions to take temporary measures to mitigate and keep works safe and within Quality standards. Follow up by taking appropriate and proportionate action (e.g. issue communications, call meetings) to prevent the halt of works.
  • Ensuring design decisions are not taken "in the field" by EDF Energy or contractors but are considered and approved via the formal Quality Process in place.
  • Enhancing the team with a good perspective of current and future site activities.
  • Ensuring tasks are developed to quality in accordance with the company’s requirement for health, safety and environment.
  • Developing and maintaining an understanding of contractual Technical Requirements, construction drawings, construction activities, Quality Control Plans and Quality Inspection Records.
  • Ensuring and monitoring that Quality Inspection Records are taken and agreed before Works are covered up.
  • Reviewing Contractor performance against the authorised Quality Control Plan.
You’ll Need To Have
  • A Mechanical Engineering qualification (or equivalent) vocational training and significant experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of pipework installation, pumps, tanks and rotating equipment.
  • Broad knowledge and wide understanding of the materials, trades methods and legal requirements.
  • Broad knowledge of Quality Assurance requirements (such as ISO9001)
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a high performing team that continuously outperforms expectations and objectives.
  • Proven experience of writing diaries which are accurate, concise and with relevance to the form of contract.
  • Good attention to detail when checking work, equipment and materials.
  • Able to establish appropriate working relationships with the contractors.
  • Persuasive and diplomatic whilst remaining independent.
  • Experience in the installation/erection of large Mechanical Equipment (including Piping activities experience)
  • Proven track record of working within a large construction team.
  • General understanding of the post’s obligations under CDM Regulations - along with an understanding of the document and drawing approvals processes.
  • Strong communication skills in English are required, and knowledge of French can be an advantage.
  • Experience in the use of electronic handheld devices to capture information.
