Play Your Part in Building the Future of UK Energy

Are you a CSWIP 3.2-qualified inspector with practical welding knowledge and experience of NDT under UK PCN requirements? Bring your expertise to Hinkley Point C and help ensure critical construction work meets the standards demanded by a major nuclear project.

Rullion is recruiting a Field Engineer - Welding & NDT Inspector to join the site's construction surveillance team. This is a field-based opportunity for someone who enjoys being close to the work: inspecting installations, engaging with contractors and identifying quality issues before they become bigger problems.

We welcome applications from candidates across nuclear, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, chemical and water industries, alongside other regulated engineering and construction environments. If you understand welding quality, inspection discipline and the importance of traceable records, your experience could transfer well to this role.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Construction Superintendent, you will provide independent surveillance of welding, fabrication and construction activities, checking that work complies with approved drawings, contractual requirements and quality arrangements.

You will combine technical judgement with a practical approach to contractor relationships-challenging concerns clearly, supporting their resolution and helping maintain a strong nuclear safety culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carrying out field surveillance of welding, fabrication and installation activities against approved requirements, inspection plans and applicable codes.
  • Reviewing welding and NDT inspection evidence, identifying discrepancies and ensuring concerns are escalated appropriately.
  • Raising Non-Conformance Reports and monitoring corrective actions through to satisfactory closure.
  • Checking contractor compliance with authorised Quality Control Plans and Inspection and Test Plans.
  • Ensuring required inspection records are completed, reviewed and agreed before works are covered up.
  • Maintaining accurate, concise site diaries and surveillance reports, contributing to quality reporting and project KPIs.
  • Working closely with contractors, construction teams and quality stakeholders to anticipate issues and support timely resolution.
  • Ensuring proposed changes follow formal review and approval processes, with no unauthorised design decisions made in the field.
  • Planning and conducting surveillance in line with site health, safety and environmental requirements.
About You
  • A current CSWIP 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector qualification as a minimum.
  • Practical NDT experience and a sound understanding of UK PCN certification requirements, including current PCN Level 2 Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
  • Hands-on welding or fabrication experience, supported by a strong track record of weld inspection on construction or engineering projects.
  • A qualification in mechanical engineering, materials or welding, or equivalent vocational training and relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of metallurgy, welding processes, weld defects and the application of NDT.
  • Experience applying relevant British, European or international construction and design codes, such as BS EN, ASME or RCC-M.
  • Confidence interpreting construction drawings, inspection plans and quality records within a safety-critical environment.
  • Experience identifying non-conformances, producing clear inspection reports and following corrective actions through to completion.
  • The confidence to challenge work constructively and build effective relationships with contractors and site teams.
Experience that would strengthen your application
  • PCN Level 2 certification in a surface inspection method, such as Magnetic Particle Testing (MT/MPI) or Penetrant Testing (PT/DPI).
  • Inspection experience involving pressure systems, pipework, mechanical equipment or associated fabrication.
  • Previous involvement in major power generation or nuclear construction projects.
  • Familiarity with quality management processes and construction completion documentation.
What's In It For You
  • Opportunity to contribute to the UK's most complex and high-profile clean energy project.
  • Work alongside some of the most skilled professionals in the industry.
  • Gain exposure to cutting-edge construction and engineering methods.
  • Develop your career within one of the world's most demanding project environments.
