Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Field Engineer (Mechanical) to support the HPC project in the UK. You will ensure quality, safety and compliance across installation activities in a high‑profile nuclear environment.

You should have a mechanical engineering qualification and hands-on experience with pipework, pumps, tanks and rotating equipment, with a strong focus on quality and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical Engineering qualification (or equivalent) and significant experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of pipework installation, pumps, tanks and rotating equipment.
  • Broad knowledge of materials, trades methods and legal requirements.
  • ISO9001 knowledge or QA requirements.
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills.
  • Proven diary-writing experience with contract relevance.
  • Good attention to detail when checking work, equipment and materials.
  • Ability to establish working relationships with contractors.
  • Persuasive and diplomatic while remaining independent.

Responsibilities

  • Check works are constructed in accordance with Work Information and notify deviations.
  • Submit details of non-conformance to assist in NCRs.
  • Communicate with stakeholders and ensure surveillance is reported.
  • Contribute surveillance information to KPI indicators.
  • Identify potential quality issues and mitigate.
  • Support team instructions to take temporary measures to maintain safety and quality.
  • Ensure design decisions are approved via formal Quality Process.
  • Enhance team with awareness of current and future site activities.
  • Develop tasks to comply with health, safety and environment requirements.
  • Understand contractual Technical Requirements, drawings, QA Plans and Inspection Records.
  • Monitor QA adherence and review Contractor performance against QC Plan.

Hinkley Point C (HPC) is the first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years, HPCs two EPR reactors will be capable of generating 3.26GW of secure, low carbon electricity for 60 years, enough electricity to power around 6 million homes. In addition to the projects 'clean energy' benefits, HPC will create thousands of jobs and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy.

Amentum are currently looking for an experienced Field Engineer (Mechanical) who will be responsible for the surveillance of quality compliance within the designated section of the Works in accordance with NNB surveillance strategy requirements.

Role responsibilities

  • Check the Works are constructed in accordance with the Contractor's Work Information and notify the Construction Superintendent of deviation and non-conformance request requirements.
  • Submit details of any non-conformance request requirements to assist in the issuing of non-conformance reports.
  • Proactively communicate with other stakeholders of the considered scope of work, maintain good communication links and ensure surveillance is timely reported.
  • Contribute surveillance information to support KPI indicators.
  • Endeavour to identify potential Quality issues before they arrive to enable mitigating actions
  • Support team instructions to take temporary measures to mitigate and keep works safe and within Quality standards. Follow up by taking appropriate and proportionate action (e.g. issue communications, call meetings) to prevent the halt of works
  • Ensure design decisions are not taken "in the field" by EDF Energy or contractors but are considered and approved via the formal Quality Process in place.
  • Enhance the team with a good perspective of current and future site activities.
  • Ensure tasks are developed to quality in accordance with the company’s requirement for health, safety and environment.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of contractual Technical Requirements, construction drawings, construction activities, Quality Control Plans and Quality Inspection Records
  • Ensure and monitor that Quality Inspection Records are taken and agreed before Works are covered up
  • Review Contractor performance against the authorised Quality Control Plan

Education, Skills & Experience

  • A Mechanical Engineering qualification (or equivalent) vocational training and significant experience
  • Experience and knowledge of pipework installation, pumps, tanks and rotating equipment
  • Broad knowledge and wide understanding of the materials, trades methods and legal requirements
  • Broad knowledge of Quality Assurance Requirements (such as ISO9001)
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills. Ability to work within a high performing team that continuously outperforms expectations and objectives
  • Proven experience of writing diaries which are accurate, concise and with relevance to the form of contract
  • Good attention to detail when checking work, equipment and materials
  • Able to establish appropriate working relationships with the contractors
  • Persuasive and diplomatic whilst remaining independent
