Job summary

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is seeking an experienced Estates Maintenance Technician (Mechanical) to maintain and improve mechanical building services across our healthcare estates in Wakefield and Kirklees. The role covers planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, and installations to heating, ventilation, water systems, and plant.

You will work with clinical and non-clinical teams, use BMS systems, and follow HTMs and safety procedures to keep patient care uninterrupted.

Responsibilities

• Deliver planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, fault finding, and installation work across a wide range of mechanical engineering systems, plant, and equipment.
• Plan and organise workload in collaboration with clinical and non-clinical departments to minimise disruption to services.
• Diagnose complex mechanical faults using specialist tools and testing equipment, implementing safe repairs.
• Respond promptly to urgent and emergency maintenance issues, ensuring critical services are restored quickly and safely.
• Communicate effectively with staff and service users, providing clear updates on maintenance activities and impact on operations.
• Operate and utilise the Trust's Building Management System (BMS) and other digital systems, undertaking training as required.
• Work safely at all times, assessing risks and ensuring the safety of patients, visitors, colleagues, and contractors.
• Comply with statutory regulations, NHS guidance, HTMs, Permit to Work procedures, and the Trust's quality management systems.
• Undertake Authorised Person/Responsible Person/Nominated Person duties in specialist areas such as Water Safety or Pressure Systems, following training.
• Support the delivery of estates projects and contribute to continuous improvement of our Estates service.
