Job summary

NHS is seeking a qualified Mechanical Engineer to join its Estates & Facilities team in Essex. You will deliver planned and reactive maintenance across mechanical plant and building services within a complex healthcare environment.

The role involves maintaining boilers, pumps, HVAC, water systems, and medical gas infrastructure where trained, with a strong emphasis on safety and compliance. On-site work with opportunities for training and NHS pension benefits.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship completed.
• City &Guilds qualifications or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across the estate.
• Diagnose, fault-find, repair and maintain a wide range of mechanical systems and equipment.
• Maintain boilers, pumps, motors, valves, pipework, water systems and HVAC equipment.
• Undertake maintenance of air handling units, ventilation systems, chiller plant, heating systems and hot and cold water services.
• Support the maintenance of critical infrastructure, including medical gas systems where trained.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns to minimise disruption to clinical services.
• Undertake installation, refurbishment and improvement works across the estate.
• Complete maintenance records, compliance documentation and work orders using CAFM systems.
• Work with contractors and clinical teams to ensure a high-quality service.
