Job summary

Sofidel UK is recruiting a Mechanical Engineer to be based at our Papermill in Hamilton, Leicestershire. You will join an established engineering team and develop into a competent engineer in a fast‑paced manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities include reducing downtime, improving machine performance, and supporting continuous improvement across the site. We value hands‑on problem solving, safety, and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Proven hands‑on experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Apprenticeship or degree in mechanical/electrical engineering.
• FMCG / Heavy industry experience.
• At least 4 years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide first line intervention during mechanical breakdowns and troubleshoot equipment problems.
• Repair and perform preventive maintenance per established standards and plans.
• Check equipment and operating systems and correct wherever necessary.
• Ensure mechanical operations, standards and controls are maintained at high quality.
• Complete maintenance care obligations and render assistance in equipment repair as necessary.
• To perform quality improvement and cost reduction and productivity as obligated.
• Oversee mechanical devices while in operation and listen for complications using testing instruments.
• Regulate downtime by informing production staff on standard preventive maintenance methods.
• Maintain records and files if requested.
• Participate in emergency on‑call duty on a rotational basis and work shifts as required.
• Ensure a high level of housekeeping of the working area.

MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide first hand intervention when there is a mechanical breakdown and assist with troubleshooting of equipment problems
• Repair and perform preventive maintenance as per established standards and plans
• To check equipment and operating systems and correct wherever necessary
• To ensure mechanical operations, standards and controls are maintained at high quality
• Complete maintenance care obligations and render assistance in equipment repair as necessary
• To perform quality improvement and cost reduction and productivity as obligated
• To oversee mechanical devices while in operation and listen for complications using accurate testing and measuring instruments
• To take out inoperative parts by disassembling devices with the use specific tools
• Regulate downtime by enlightening production staff on standard preventive maintenance methods
• Maintain records and files if requested
• To participate in emergency on‑call duty on a rotational basis and work all shifts flexibly when job demands
• Ensure a high level of housekeeping of the working area is maintained throughout the shift
• To ensure health & safety rules are adhered to

REQUIREMENTS

Proven hands‑on experience within a manufacturing environment

Recognised apprenticeship or degree within the field of : mechanical engineering/electrical engineering/engineering

FMCG / Heavy industry experience

Atleast 4 years of experience

WORKING HOURS

42 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:30
