Sofidel S.p.A. is recruiting a Mechanical Engineer for our papermill in Leicester. You will join an established engineering team focused on continuous development, with a hands-on approach to solving problems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key duties include reducing downtime, improving machine performance and supporting site-wide continuous improvement. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, safety and quality focus, and flexibility to cover shifts.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Apprenticeship or degree in mechanical/electrical engineering.
• FMCG/heavy industry background; at least 4 years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide first-hand intervention during mechanical breakdowns and assist with troubleshooting.
• Repair and perform preventive maintenance per standards and plans.
• Check equipment and operating systems and correct where necessary.
• Maintain high-quality mechanical operations, standards and controls.

You’ll play a key role in reducing downtime, improving machine performance, and supporting continuous improvement across the site.

MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide first hand intervention when there is a mechanical breakdown and assist with troubleshooting of equipment problems
• Repair and perform preventive maintenance as per established standards and plans
• To check equipment and operating systems and correct wherever necessary
• To ensure mechanical operations, standards and controls are maintained at high quality
• Complete maintenance care obligations and render assistance in equipment repair as necessary
• To perform quality improvement and cost reduction and productivity as obligated
• To oversee mechanical devices while in operation and listen for complications using accurate testing and measuring instruments
• To take out inoperative parts by disassembling devices with the use specific tools
• Regulate downtime by enlightening production staff on standard preventive maintenance methods
• Maintain records and files if requested
• To participate in emergency on-call duty on a rotational basis and work all shifts flexibly when job demands
• Ensure a high level of housekeeping of the working area is maintained throughout the shift
• To ensure health & safety rules are adhered to

REQUIREMENTS

• Proven hands‑on experience within a manufacturing environment
• Recognised apprenticeship or degree within the field of : mechanical engineering/electrical engineering/engineering
• FMCG / Heavy industry experience
• Atleast 4 years of experience

WORKING HOURS

42 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:30
