Job summary

ASC Connections is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to deliver hands‑on mechanical engineering, inspections and design work across UK sites. You will lead inspections, diagnose faults, and provide repair recommendations from initial inspection through to commissioning and ongoing support.

The role requires 5+ years in heavy or industrial machinery environments, a degree in mechanical engineering, and the ability to travel nationwide.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of mechanical engineering experience in heavy/industrial machinery.
• Experience in machinery inspection, servicing, repair and fault diagnosis.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing techniques.
• Ability to diagnose challenging mechanical faults and perform basic electrical fault finding.
• Proven track record of producing professional technical engineering reports.
• Willingness to work across workshop and customer sites and travel UK-wide.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical machinery inspections, servicing and repair programmes.
• Diagnose complex mechanical faults and carry out root‑cause investigations.
• Assess machinery condition and recommend repairs or modifications.
• Support design and modification of machinery and equipment.
• Apply machining, welding, fabrication and assembly techniques.
• Supervise workshop and customer‑site engineering activities.
• Support machinery installation, commissioning and condition‑monitoring.
• Produce detailed technical reports with findings and recommendations.
• Collaborate with Mechanical Fitters and Technicians on projects.
• Communicate technical findings clearly to customers and stakeholders.
• Travel to customer sites across the UK as required.

Join an established specialist engineering business providing machinery engineering, service and repair solutions to customers across the UK.

This is a varied position combining hands‑on mechanical engineering knowledge with machinery inspection, design, fault diagnosis and technical reporting. You'll work across both workshop and customer‑site environments, taking responsibility for engineering projects from initial inspection through to repair recommendations, commissioning and ongoing support.

The role would suit an experienced Mechanical Engineer from a heavy engineering, industrial machinery, special‑purpose machinery or engineering service background who can combine strong practical knowledge with mechanical design and technical engineering expertise.

Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical machinery inspections, servicing and repair programmes.
• Diagnose complex mechanical faults and carry out root‑cause investigations.
• Assess machinery condition and recommend appropriate repairs or engineering modifications.
• Support the design and modification of machinery and mechanical equipment.
• Apply knowledge of machining, welding, fabrication and mechanical assembly techniques.

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 5 years' relevant mechanical engineering experience.
• Strong background within industrial machinery, heavy engineering or a related engineering service environment.
• Experience with machinery inspection, servicing, repair and fault diagnosis.
• Good understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing techniques.
• Able to diagnose challenging mechanical faults and carry out basic electrical fault finding.
• Experience producing professional technical engineering reports.
• Comfortable working across both workshop and customer‑site environments.
• Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• IEng status would be advantageous.
• Relevant site safety certification would be beneficial.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Flexibility for UK travel, occasional overnight stays and out-of-hours work when required.
