Job summary

Nicholas Associates in the Midlands seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer focused on press tool design for our Manufacturing and Engineering team. You will work on sheet metal tooling and fixtures with precision, contributing from concept through production.

Applicants should be proficient in SolidWorks and hold an HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering, or a Toolmaking Apprenticeship with design experience. Commutable from Redditch and surrounding areas.

Qualifications

• Experience in sheet metal press tool design with a portfolio of small, high‑precision components.
• SolidWorks proficiency for tool development and validation.
• HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering, OR a Toolmaking Apprenticeship with design experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop press tools and fixtures for production.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers to optimise tooling.
• Support tooling qualification and smooth production transfer.

Hours: Monday to Thursday (7.30am – 4.30pm) Friday (7.30am – 12.30pm) - 39 hours per week

Overview:

With manufacturing facilities located across the UK, we now require a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Manufacturing and Engineering team. You will part of a large engineering function of Manufacturing Engineers with a key focus on press tool design.

The ideal candidate / Mechanical Design Engineer – Die Design may have some of the following experiences, however, please note these are only desirable and not essential as all applications will be looked at individually:

• Proven experience in sheet metal press tool design, with a distinct portfolio of small, high-precision components.
• Competent with Solidworks
• HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering, OR a completed Toolmaking Apprenticeship paired with design experience

Redditch, Alcester, Solihull, Bromsgrove, Coventry, Worcester, Birmingham and surrounding areas.
