Yorkshire in Wakefield is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to drive concept designs through to production drawings for specialised machinery. You will manage project scopes, timeframes and budgets while applying cost-conscious design solutions to meet customer requirements and standards.

You will perform design reviews, calculations and risk assessments, ensuring high quality documentation and collaboration with suppliers and internal teams.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
• Experience designing and developing special purpose machinery.
• Proficient in 3D CAD design (AutoCAD essential).

Key responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer will include: Deliver mechanical designs from concept through to production drawings, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, business objectives, and relevant BS/ISO standards. Manage project workloads, schedules, and budgets effectively to ensure successful and timely project delivery. Apply commercial awareness to develop cost-effective design solutions and manage scope changes in line with company procedures. Communicate project progress, risks, and technical issues clearly with engineering leadership and key stakeholders. Conduct design reviews, detail checking, machinery risk assessments, and engineering calculations to ensure quality, safety, and performance. Maintain accurate engineering documentation, databases, and traceability systems, including barcode scanning and data management processes. Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to implement innovative processes and deliver the most economical and advantageous design solutions.
