Job summary

Mech Electrics Limited is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop mechanical systems for data centres in the Manchester region. You will design cooling and ventilation, produce drawings, and perform calculations to support multidisciplinary project teams.

The role requires a degree or HNC/HND in mechanical engineering, proficiency with AutoCAD or Revit, and the ability to travel to sites as needed. A strong communicator who enjoys teamwork will thrive in this environment.

Mechanical Design Engineer - Data Centres

Location: Manchester / Greater Manchester

Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

Job Type: Permanent

Key Responsibilities

• Design mechanical systems for data centres and critical infrastructure projects.
• Develop cooling, chilled water, ventilation and mechanical services designs.
• Produce drawings, schematics, specifications and technical documentation.
• Undertake engineering calculations and design assessments.
• Work closely with electrical engineers and wider project teams to deliver coordinated MEP solutions.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors and suppliers.
• Provide technical support during construction, testing and commissioning.
• Attend site visits, surveys and design meetings as required.

About You

• HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or a related discipline.
• Previous mechanical design experience within building services, M&E, industrial or critical environments.
• Strong understanding of mechanical building services and cooling systems.
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
• Experience within data centres or other mission-critical environments would be advantageous.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
