Job summary

Enterprise Recruitment Ltd in Cambridge (Waterbeach area) is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to drive designs from concept through development and manufacture, using SolidWorks to create and refine components and sub-assemblies.

You will collaborate with scientists, engineers, manufacturing teams and suppliers to build prototypes, source parts and apply engineering knowledge to practical problems, with a strong emphasis on Design for Manufacture and BOM maintenance.

Qualifications

• At least five years' experience as a Mechanical Engineer.
• Strong SolidWorks skills and experience with special-purpose machinery.
• Experience applying Design for Manufacture principles.

Mechanical Design Engineer

Cambridge (Waterbeach)

This role will give an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer the opportunity to work on innovative technology and technically challenging projects, taking ideas from the initial design stage through to development and manufacture.

You’ll work closely with scientists, engineers, manufacturing teams and suppliers to design and develop components and sub-assemblies for specialist products. The role will involve using SolidWorks to create and develop designs, building prototypes, sourcing parts and applying your engineering knowledge to solve practical problems.

We’re looking for someone with at least five years’ experience as a Mechanical Engineer, with strong SolidWorks skills and experience in special-purpose machinery and automation mechanisms. You’ll be comfortable carrying out engineering calculations, working to Design for Manufacture principles and managing revisions to drawings and BOMs.

It’s a varied position where you’ll be involved in the full design process, from developing new mechanisms and special-purpose machinery through to keeping drawings and BOMs up to date and working with suppliers and the manufacturing team to bring designs into production.

The technology you’ll be working with has applications across a range of industries, including automotive, aerospace, aviation and semiconductor, as well as exciting emerging areas such as advanced coatings and lithium-ion battery manufacturing.

Experience with optics, PCB design or cable and wiring systems would be an advantage. Just as importantly, you’ll have a good eye for detail, be comfortable managing different priorities and enjoy working with people across different areas of the business.

Key Requirements

• Minimum 5 years' experience as a Mechanical Engineer.
• Experience with special-purpose machinery, automation mechanisms, engineering calculations and Design for Manufacture.
• HNC or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
