Job summary

Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Midwife to lead day-to-day flow in maternity, respond to emergencies, and participate in governance and quality improvement activities. The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and a commitment to patient safety for women and families.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will guide decisions to ensure safety across the unit and contribute to ongoing maternity improvements within the NHS trust.

Qualifications

• Must hold a midwifery degree and be registered with the NMC.
• Evidence of CPD since qualification is required.
• Substantial post-registration maternity experience.
• Experience leading a shift on a maternity unit is essential.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
• Demonstrates leadership and change management abilities.
• IT literacy and ability to use common IT systems.
• Experience with clinical governance, audits and incident reporting is preferred.
• Understanding HR policies and procedures is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Take the lead in managing day-to-day flow within maternity and ensure smooth transitions for patients and families.
• Carry and respond to maternity emergency bleep throughout each shift.
• Participate in clinical governance processes, incident reporting, audits and quality improvement activities.
• Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team across the clinical service unit and wider hospital.
• Support and guide decision making of colleagues to ensure safety across the unit.
