Our client, a large Aerospace and Defence supplier, is seeking a Materials & Process Laboratory Technician for a 6-month initial contract at their Stevenage site.

Additional information

Applicants must hold British nationality and be willing to obtain SC Clearance. The position is fully onsite in Stevenage, with some occasional work from home.

Overview of department:

The Materials team supports all areas of the business in materials science, offering expertise in metallic, non-metallic, and composite materials, with a focus on ensuring product quality, compliance, and reliability through testing, guidance, and technical support.

The team provides services including material selection, failure analysis, obsolescence solutions, supplier assessments, and compliance support for REACH and RoHS.

Responsibilities:

• Assess a wide range of materials including metals, paints, adhesives, and composites.
• Use general lab equipment; experience with XRF, FTIR, SEM, and EDX is beneficial.
• Prepare reports, interpret engineering drawings and specifications, and utilize IT systems such as Word, Excel, and Access.
• Support failure investigations, material selection, supply chain support, and inspection activities.
• Assist in compliance data generation and assessment, including environmental regulations.

Skillset/experience required:

• Experience in a manufacturing laboratory setting.
• Knowledge of international standards like DEF STANs for material assessment.
• Experience in procurement and manufacturing of engineering parts.
• Understanding of non-metallic materials, including paints and adhesives.
