Job summary

Comton Group in Wolverhampton is seeking a Process & Continuous Improvement Engineer to drive efficiency and quality across production processes. You will analyse workflows from goods-in to despatch, apply Lean tools, and lead improvement projects to cut waste and improve OEE.

You will work hands-on with management and production teams, develop SOPs, monitor KPIs, support ISO 9001, and assess new equipment investments while coaching team leaders toward operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in manufacturing or production engineering.
• Strong knowledge of Lean manufacturing and CI methodologies.
• Experience applying ISO 9001 quality standards.
• Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyse production workflows from goods-in through despatch.
• Identify bottlenecks, downtime, waste, and efficiency improvements.
• Conduct time studies, capacity assessments and line balancing.
• Review layouts, material flow, storage and waste reduction.
• Lead CI projects using Lean tools (5S, SMED, Kanban, standard work).
• Apply DMAIC, SIPOC, FMEA and SPC problem-solving methods.
• Develop SOPs and work instructions; train operators.
• Support new product introductions and process improvements.
• Monitor KPIs: throughput, OEE, downtime, scrap, right-first-time.
• Use FactoryIQ and production data to improve reporting and decision-making.
• Produce regular performance reports for Factory Manager.
• Maintain quality checks, inspections and calibration.
• Investigate non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
• Support ISO 9001 requirements and quality management systems.
• Ensure risk assessments and safe systems of work.
• Promote health and safety standards; train employees.
• Work with maintenance to improve machinery reliability.
• Assess new equipment investments including ROI.
• Support the Factory Manager and deputise when required.
• Collaborate with Operations on planning, scheduling and CI initiatives.
• Coach team leaders and operators to drive problem-solving.
