Job Description

Ultra Precision Control Systems seeks a Manufacturing Engineer to lead, manage, and execute key activities contributing to product delivery, process improvements, and RCCA both internally and in the supply chain. Ensuring Manufacturing Services meet customer expectations on time, within budget, and with the right quality level. You will be part of a team of Manufacturing Engineers reporting to a Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will have cradle-to-grave manufacturing responsibility for the assembly, repair, and testing of electro-mechanical products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain manufacturing documentation for all products, ensuring staff are equipped with processes and procedures to meet customer expectations with high quality and low cost.
  • Ensure product and process quality through designing repeatable and reproducible manufacturing processes, establishing standards, and verifying processes with support from Cell Support Engineers and Operators.
  • Add value and reduce waste by managing material workflow from supplier to customer, including supplier capability assessments via audits and process development.
  • Evaluate existing and new manufacturing processes and products using PFMEA, implementing solutions to mitigate risks.
  • Contribute to bid preparation, estimating labor standards and potentially materials, plant, and tooling costs.
  • Work with Engineering on new product development and introduction, ensuring manufacturability within design constraints, and considering full product lifecycle costs.
  • Utilize PFMEA within design and manufacturing cycles, establishing controls to ensure fail-proof production processes.
  • Participate in supplier selection alongside procurement and Design teams, ensuring cost-effective make/buy decisions.
  • Design and manage manufacturing tooling to support efficient, repeatable assembly.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by planning workflows, space, tools, and layout.
  • Support RCCA, FRACAS, and MRB activities to reduce defects and improve FPY, working with suppliers to address non-conformances.
  • Review costs of existing products and develop actions for cost-effective redesign.
  • Define standard manufacturing parameters and ensure process capability assessment before production.
  • Maintain effective relationships with suppliers, customers, and internal teams.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience supporting AS9145 within an AS9100 organization.
  • Knowledge of design, make, prove interface roles, and Design for Manufacture and Test (DFMAT).
  • Ability to define production requirements for NPI and justify build/test strategies financially.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and documentation.
  • Self-motivated with effective performance monitoring.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Experience manufacturing electromechanical products.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods for mechanical and PCB/PCBA assemblies.
  • Understanding of manufacturing tools and techniques in low-volume/high-complexity environments.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Proficiency with MRP/ERP systems.
  • Hands-on attitude, proactive, energetic, and eager for continuous improvement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with NPI implementation from concept to production.

Qualifications:

  • HNC/HND in Engineering or related field as a minimum.
  • Degree in Engineering or Science discipline or equivalent.
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma certifications.
  • Knowledge of IFS and TeamCenter is advantageous.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with aerospace standards (EASA Part 21, Part 145, AS9100).
  • Experience in Assembly Process Engineering and Factory Simulation.
  • Knowledge of CAD for tooling design.
  • Strategic thinker with effective communication and innovation skills.
  • Ability to mentor and develop staff in Lean disciplines.
  • Experience embedding NPI and process engineering solutions (DFM, Control Plans, PFMEAs, etc.) within the AS9145 framework.
  • Understanding of project management and supply chain principles.
