Overview

We seek an experienced economist to join our thriving Economic Advisory team. This team has rapidly expanded in recent years, establishing itself as a leading economics practice in the UK. We've advised on many of the nation's most significant and high-profile issues. Our UK team comprises approximately 60 economists, covering the Public Sector, Technology, Media and Telecoms, Energy & Infrastructure, Transport, and Financial Services sectors, from both microeconomic and macroeconomic perspectives. It's part of Deloitte's global Economic Advisory network.

Our team delivers impactful results across various areas, including strategic, policy, and regulatory economics; impact assessment and appraisal; funding and financing; evaluation; forecasting and modelling; pricing and incentives; and competition and disputes. We combine these technical skills with Deloitte's extensive industry knowledge, offering a unique and impactful solution to help our clients achieve their missions and visions.

Responsibilities

This Manager position will support the growth of our work across various sectors, encompassing both regulatory and strategic projects. This includes leading projects from inception to completion and supporting business development, offering diverse economic advisory experience across our areas of expertise.

Examples of projects you might undertake include:

• developing commercial and pricing models for new payment technologies;
• advising on regulatory models to estimate the value of digital platform content;
• modelling loyalty scheme ecosystems to inform negotiations on multi-party loyalty programmes;
• estimating the economic contribution of media productions to local economies;
• working on price control reviews across sectors, including energy, water, transport, and telecoms;
• supporting government policy and investment mechanisms to achieve net-zero targets; and
• advising on the implementation and enhancement of regulatory reporting tools and methodologies for a telecoms provider.

The successful candidate will hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Economics and demonstrate proven experience in:

• working as a professional economist in government, regulation, business, or consulting;
• undertaking diverse engagements across sectors and contexts, including economic regulation, competition, public policy, and strategy;
• leading projects and managing client relationships;
• supporting leadership in team management and wider business operations; and
• collaborating across Economic Advisory and Deloitte.

We are interested in experience in:

• one or more of our sectors. Candidates with a particular interest in financial services are welcome, though we are interested in candidates with interest in any of our sectors as well;
• the economics of consumer and competition regulation;
• providing strategic economic advice to clients;
• policy design and evaluation; and
• economic modelling and data analysis.

In this role, you will:

• lead business development and practice management initiatives;
• build relationships within and outside Deloitte's Economic Advisory sector communities;
• manage and develop diverse teams within an inclusive team culture that values contributions;
• contribute to business development by writing proposals for prospective clients;
• develop novel analytical approaches and economic models, often with imperfect evidence and data;
• develop solutions through collaborative discussion in multidisciplinary teams and with senior stakeholders;
• pursue ongoing professional development; and
• be willing to travel domestically and internationally for short periods.
