Job summary

SF Partners are recruiting a Management Accountant on a 12-14 month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. Based in Newark/South Nottinghamshire, the role is hybrid with three days in the office.

You will own the monthly management accounts process across a multi-company group, ensuring timely reporting. You'll analyse performance, investigate variances and present findings to Regional Managers, helping non-finance stakeholders understand the numbers and inform decisions.

Qualifications

• Experience independently managing full month-end process.
• Strong knowledge of journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Excellent Excel skills, including XLOOKUP and pivot tables.
• Ability to explain financial results to non-finance stakeholders.
• Experience presenting management accounts and explaining financial performance.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post month-end journals including payroll, accruals, prepayments, depreciation and other adjustments.
• Manage the month-end process and ensure journals and schedules are completed within five working days.
• Take ownership of monthly balance sheet reconciliations across allocated group companies.
• Review management accounts, investigate variances and identify unusual movements or trends.
• Analyse service and property-level performance and identify key results needing attention.
• Prepare budget variance commentary and present monthly financial findings to Regional Managers.
• Explain financial performance clearly to non-finance stakeholders and respond to queries.
• Support weekly cash flow forecasting and wider finance activities.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and streamline the month-end cycle.

SF Partners are working with a leading organisation to recruit a Management Accountant on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.

Working as part of an established finance team, you'll take ownership of the monthly management accounts process across a multi-company group, ensuring accurate and timely reporting. Alongside the preparation of management accounts, you'll analyse financial performance, investigate variances and present findings to Regional Managers, helping non-finance stakeholders understand the numbers and make informed decisions.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone with previous experience managing the full month-end process independently, who can come in and hit the ground running.

The role will include:

• Preparing and posting month-end journals, including payroll, accruals, prepayments, deferred revenue, depreciation and other adjustments.
• Managing the month-end process, ensuring journals and supporting schedules are completed within five working days.
• Taking ownership of monthly balance sheet reconciliations across allocated group companies.
• Reviewing management accounts, investigating variances and identifying unusual movements or trends.
• Analysing service and property-level performance, identifying key results and areas requiring attention.
• Preparing budget variance commentary and presenting monthly financial findings to Regional Managers.
• Explaining financial performance clearly to non-finance stakeholders and responding to queries from across the business.
• Supporting weekly cash flow forecasting and wider finance activities.
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes and streamline the month-end cycle.

About you:

• Previous experience independently managing the full month-end management accounts process is essential.
• Strong technical knowledge of journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Confident analysing financial information, investigating variances and producing meaningful management commentary.
• Experience presenting management accounts and explaining financial performance to non-finance stakeholders.
• Strong Excel skills are essential, particularly XLOOKUP, pivot tables and working with large datasets.
• Experience using Sage 200 would be advantageous, although this is not essential.
• AAT qualified or equivalent would be beneficial, but professional qualifications are not required. Candidates qualified by experience will be considered.
• Able to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet tight month-end deadlines.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced, hands-on Management Accountant who enjoys taking ownership of the numbers, getting involved in the detail and working closely with operational teams.

Additional information:

• 12-14 month fixed-term contract (maternity cover).
• Salary of £38,000-£40,000, dependent on experience.
• 37.5 hours per week.
• Hybrid working, with a minimum of three days per week in the office.
• Based in the Newark / South Nottinghamshire area - driving is essential due to the location.
