Job summary

Vitae Financial Recruitment Ltd. is assisting a client in Hemel Hempstead to recruit a Management Accountant on a 6-month contract. The role focuses on delivering timely management accounts, cash flow forecasting, budgeting and statutory accounting support within a busy finance team.

You will work autonomously, hit the ground running and communicate effectively with stakeholders across finance and non-finance functions. Hybrid pattern with immediate start available.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a Management Accountant or similar financial accounting position.
• Strong knowledge of management and statutory accounting, including IFRS/UK GAAP.
• Experience preparing monthly management accounts, journals and balance sheet reporting.
• Knowledge of VAT returns, cash flow forecasting and budgeting processes.
• Experience supporting statutory accounts preparation and external audits.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, including journal postings and financial reporting.
• Deliver cash flow forecasts, working closely with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely information.
• Analyse financial performance, investigate variances against budget and provide meaningful commentary.
• Manage debtor and creditor activities across the assigned portfolio.
• Prepare and submit periodic VAT returns.
• Support annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes.
• Assist with the preparation of statutory accounts and annual audits, including accounts prepared under IFRS, FRS 101 and FRS 102.
• Manage month-end, quarter-end and year-end activities, ensuring deadlines are consistently met.
• Build strong working relationships with stakeholders, responding to financial queries and providing clear, commercially relevant information.

Management Accountant - 6-Month Contract

Location: Hemel Hempstead

Salary: £50,000-£60,000 per annum

Working Pattern: Hybrid

Contract: 6 months

Start Date: ASAP

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Management Accountant to join a busy finance team on an initial 6-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who can hit the ground running, quickly get up to speed with existing processes and take ownership of a varied portfolio of accounting responsibilities.

You will play a key role in delivering accurate and timely financial information, supporting month-end reporting, cash flow forecasting, budgeting and statutory accounting requirements. The successful candidate will be comfortable working autonomously, managing competing deadlines and building relationships with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.

This role is suited to someone available to start immediately or at very short notice, with the technical knowledge and experience to make an impact from day one.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, including journal postings and financial reporting.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Proven experience in a Management Accountant or similar financial accounting position.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge, covering both management and statutory accounts.
• Experience preparing monthly management accounts, journals, balance sheet reporting and variance analysis.
• Knowledge of VAT returns, cash flow forecasting and budgeting processes.
• Experience supporting statutory accounts preparation and external audits.
• A good understanding of IFRS, FRS 102, FRS 101 and UK GAAP.
• Strong Excel skills and experience using an ERP or financial accounting system.
• The ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and manage multiple deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging with stakeholders outside of finance.
• A proactive, hands-on approach, with the ability to learn quickly and make an immediate contribution.

ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified or part-qualified candidates are welcome.
