Job description

If you enjoy getting under the skin of the numbers, spotting what others might miss and turning financial information into something useful, this could be a great next step.

Trial Balance Consulting is working with an established organisation in Cornwall to recruit a Management Accountant into its finance team. This is a varied role combining budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and reporting, with the opportunity to work closely with colleagues across the organisation and contribute to effective financial decision making.

The role would suit someone who enjoys the analytical side of finance, has strong Excel skills and takes pride in producing accurate, reliable information.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Monitoring budgets and forecasts, comparing actual income and expenditure against expectations and investigating variances.
  • Preparing regular budget monitoring reports, supporting schedules and clear explanations of financial performance.
  • Assisting with annual budget setting and ongoing forecasting exercises.
  • Maintaining accurate financial and budgeting system data, ensuring changes are properly recorded and supported by a clear audit trail.
  • Reviewing staffing budgets and updating information following authorised changes.
  • Supporting month end processes, including checking nominal coding, journals, accruals and commitments.
  • Completing reconciliations and investigating discrepancies between financial systems and other data sources.
  • Producing financial information and supporting documentation for internal reviews and audit requirements.
  • Working with colleagues to resolve queries, improve reporting processes and maintain strong financial controls.
What we're looking for

You'll have experience working within a finance team or accountancy practice, be confident using financial systems and have excellent Excel skills. You'll also be analytical, organised and comfortable working to regular reporting deadlines.

Experience of budgeting, forecasting, management accounts or financial analysis would be beneficial. An AAT Level 3 qualification or above would be an advantage, although relevant practical experience and the right approach are equally important.

You don't need to have worked in a particular sector to be considered. We're interested in people who understand the numbers, ask the right questions and can communicate financial information clearly.

If you're looking for a role where you can build on your finance experience, develop your analytical skills and make a meaningful contribution to financial planning and reporting, I'd be pleased to have a confidential conversation.

This opportunity may also suit candidates currently working as a Management Accountant, Assistant Management Accountant, Finance Analyst, Budget Analyst, Financial Reporting Analyst or Senior Finance Officer who have strong Excel skills and experience in budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
