Job summary

Briggs Marine Group in Scotland is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to join our team on a full-time permanent basis. The role involves maintaining and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment, supporting our subsea cables division and ensuring projects stay on track.

You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, inspect hydraulic components, read technical drawings, and work with apprentices.

Qualifications

  • Time served in Mechanical/Electrical technician role.
  • Hydraulic fault finding and diagnosis advantageous.
  • Electrical fault finding and diagnosis.
  • Read and understand technical drawings.
  • Experience using maintenance scheduling software.
  • HNC or equivalent in engineering.
  • Good time management.
  • Basic IT skills (Word/Excel).
  • Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair cable handling equipment for projects.
  • Assist mobilisation/demobilisation of cable equipment for offshore work.
  • Ensure safe working practices at all times.
  • Perform periodic and condition-based maintenance; premobilisation checks.
  • Log maintenance records accurately.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  • Inspect/overhaul valves, motors, pumps and hydraulic components.
  • Keep workshop and transport areas clean and orderly.
  • Operate machinery/tools safely and ensure proper use of materials.

The Role

We are currently expanding our team and are in search of an experienced Maintenance Technician to join us on a full-time permanent basis. In this role, you'll be at the forefront of maintaining and repairing a diverse range of electrical and mechanical equipment, playing a vital part in our innovative subsea cables division.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Be a key part of the engineering maintenance that goes into maintaining and repairing cable handling equipment to ensure every project remains on track and making some complex cable projects possible.
  • Assisting in the mobilisation and demobilisation of cable equipment for off-shore projects.
  • Ensure safe working practices are always followed.
  • Complete periodic and condition-based maintenance, completing premobilisation checks on equipment to ensure is ready for internal projects or hire.
  • Logging all maintenance records on system
  • Troubleshooting on electrical/mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  • Inspect and overhaul valves, motors, pumps and other hydraulic components.
  • Maintain housekeeping in workshop. Ensure all work areas are clean and tidy including company transport.
  • Safe operation of machinery, hand tools, lifting equipment and ensure job materials and equipment are correctly used.
  • Provide input into the specification of new equipment from a maintenance and operational point of view to Project Managers and Engineers.
  • Report any problems that have occurred or any questions that you may have to the Production Manager.
  • Provide guidance to apprentices in department and mentor them on their apprenticeship pathway.
Required skills/knowledge
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Time served/significant experience in a Mechanical / Electrical technician role.
  • Hydraulic fault finding & diagnosis would be advantageous.
  • Electrical fault finding and diagnosis
  • Understand technical drawings and information.
  • Experience using maintenance scheduling and logging software
  • HNC (or equivalent) in engineering trade or relevant experience
  • Good time management.
  • Basic IT skills in Word and Excel would be an advantage.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills.
