Job summary

Briggs Marine Group is seeking an experienced Second Engineer to oversee maintenance and repair of all machinery and electrical equipment aboard our vessel on a 3 week on / 3 week off rotation. The role requires hands-on shipboard experience and current ENG1 medical clearance, plus MOD security clearance and UK residency.

You will work closely with the Master to maximise vessel economy and ensure safety, environmental compliance, and readiness of all systems.

Qualifications

  • Previous hands-on experience on board a similar vessel.
  • Second Engineer SV <3000 GT & <9,000 kW CoC (or Equivalent).
  • Knowledge of vessel operational processes, ICT Office applications and fleet management systems.
  • ENG1 Medical.
  • Complete MOD security clearance (must be UK resident for 3+ years).

Responsibilities

  • Consult daily with the Master to maximise economy while ensuring minimum efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with Oil and Environmental Pollution Prevention legislation and train crew on safety procedures.
  • Be familiar with vessel construction, machinery and operating characteristics; take overall responsibility for configuration.
  • Plan and carry out all planned maintenance and normal/emergency repairs with minimal disruption.
  • Inspect machinery and machinery spaces regularly.
  • Oversee bunkering of the vessel ensuring quantity/quality as ordered.
  • Arrange transfers of fuel/lubricants/ballast/water and verify plans with the Master.
  • Prepare spare gear orders and maintain inventory lists.
  • Maintain engine room records as required by the Company.
  • Manage Classification Society survey admin for hull and machinery.

The Role

Overall responsibility for maintenance and repair of all machinery and electrical equipment (deck and engine) onboard the vessel on a 3 week on 3 week off rotation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Consult at least daily with the Master to achieve the maximum economy consistent with the minimum efficiency required. Keeping the Master fully informed of any occurrences in the engine room or deck equipment which might affect navigation or the essential services under his or her control.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Oil and Environmental Pollution Prevention Legislation and to ensure that all responsible crew are familiar with Emergency Procedures, Contingency Plans and capable of operating all Safety and Pollution Prevention equipment and appliance.
  • Be familiar with details of vessel’s construction, machinery and operating characteristics and take overall responsibility for the configuration of the vessel and all systems and equipment.
  • Ensure that all Planned Maintenance and both normal and emergency repair work is carried out. Ensuring that all work is planned for minimum disruption to the vessel’s overall programme and maximum reliability and availability of the plant.
  • Make regular inspections of machinery and machinery spaces.
  • Be responsible for the bunkering of the vessel and ensuring that the quantity and quality is as ordered.
  • Arranging all transfers of fuel/lubricant oil/ballast/fresh water and checking plans with the Master prior to actioning.
  • Preparing all spare gear orders, spare gear inventory lists and ensure spares are adequate.
  • Keep all engine room records as required by the Company.
  • Deal with the administration and upkeep of Classification Society Survey requirements of both hull and machinery.
The Candidate
  • Previous practical hands on experience on board a similar vessel
  • Second Engineer SV <3000 GT & <9,000 kW CoC (or Equivalent)
  • Knowledge of the operational processes of the vessel, ICT Office applications and fleet management systems
  • ENG1 Medical
  • Complete MOD security clearance (must be resident in the UK for a minimum of 3 years)
