Job summary

TechMet Ltd. in Belfast is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join a clean, highly automated FMCG plant operating a rotating 4-shift pattern for 24/7 support across the facility.

The role requires NVQ Level 3 in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, post-qualification experience in a high-volume environment, and competence in pneumatics, inverters, servo drives, robotics and safety controls. Travel to multi-site locations is part of the job, with a focus on safety and continuous reliability.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Post-qualification mechanical and electrical experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Experience with pneumatics, inverters, servo drives & motors, robotics, process wiring and safety controls.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance tasks.
• Complete repairs via CMMS to prevent breakdowns and maintain equipment uptime.
• Clear maintenance backlogs, including overtime when required.
• Source, identify and order spare parts to minimise downtime.
• Monitor energy usage to reduce consumption and carbon footprint.
• Supervise contractors to ensure Health and Safety compliance.
• Travel to multi-site facilities as required for maintenance tasks.
• Maintain safe working environment in line with Health and Safety and regulations.
• Demonstrate fault-finding and problem-solving in electrical and mechanical systems.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings.
• Be able to work at heights and in confined spaces.

Maintenance Technician - Belfast

Continental shift based Maintenance Technician position in Belfast and FMCG plant. Multi-skilled Engineers preferred but consider single skilled if willing to be upskilled. Clean and highly automated and non-food.

Hold a NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering. (Electric bias preferred)

Post qualification mechanical and electrical experience gained with a high-volume manufacturing environment.

Experience in pneumatics, inverters, servo drives & motors, Robotics, process wiring and safety controls

Experience in fitment and set up of mechanical components, timing belts, spur & bevel gears, bearings and shaft alignment

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician will ensure that all facilities are maintained in optimum condition to meet required standards of safety, efficiency, and reliability. They are responsible for undertaking various planned and reactive maintenance tasks and will work as part of the maintenance team in a varied and fast-paced environment.

Main Responsibilities

• Complete planned repairs and preventative maintenance in accordance with the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to prevent breakdowns and maintain optimal operation of equipment, ensuring minimal disruption.
• Complete breakdown repairs in accordance with the Computerised Maintenance Management System, reporting daily to ensure minimal disruption to production requirements.
• Ensure maintenance work backlogs are actively cleared, including overtime working as necessary.
• Source, identify, and order spare parts when required to minimise associated downtime with specific repairs.
• Maintain awareness of energy usage, particularly when machines are idling and not producing, to reduce energy consumption, lower the carbon footprint, and support compliance with customer targets:
  • Compliant hygienic maintenance practices.
  • Compliant lock-out procedures to protect employees from rotating machinery.
• Supervise contractors as required to ensure Health and Safety compliance.
• Travel to multi-site facilities as requested to complete maintenance requirements.
• Carry out all maintenance work in compliance with Health and Safety and statutory regulations to provide a safe environment for employees.
• Able to demonstrate experience of electrical and mechanical fault-finding / problem solving
• Able to read and understand electrical drawings
• Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces
• Ability to demonstrate previous experience of training and mentoring/coaching of team members would be advantageous to your application
• Available to travel to multi-site locations

The Maintenance Technician role operates on a rotating 4-shift pattern providing 24/7 maintenance support across the production facility. The rota includes a combination of day and night shifts, including weekend working.
