Job summary

Kara Healthcare is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Person to keep our East Midlands homes safe, well-maintained and welcoming for residents and staff.

You'll perform general repairs, respond to maintenance requests, and carry out essential plumbing, electrical, carpentry and decorating work as competent. The role requires practical, organised individuals who can work independently and manage multiple tasks daily.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should be practical, organized and diligent.
  • Good practical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Understanding of health and safety.
  • Ability to identify issues and find solutions.
  • Experience in maintenance or facilities is helpful.
  • Experience in care homes is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out general repairs and maintenance in care homes.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and fix issues promptly.
  • Carry out basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, decorating work as competent.
  • Inspect building, equipment, fixtures and fittings regularly.
  • Identify potential maintenance issues before they escalate.
  • Keep communal areas, bedrooms and gardens well maintained.
  • Support planned preventative maintenance.
  • Ensure environment is safe, clean and comfortable.
  • Work with team with strong organisation and ability to work independently.

What We're Looking For
  • Previous experience in a maintenance, handyman, facilities, or similar role.
  • Good practical and problem-solving skills.
  • Confidence carrying out general repairs and maintenance.
  • A good understanding of health and safety.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Carrying out general repairs and maintenance around our care homes.
  • Responding to maintenance requests and resolving issues promptly.
  • Completing basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, decorating, and general repair work where competent.
  • Carrying out regular checks of the building, equipment, fixtures, and fittings.
  • Identifying potential maintenance issues before they become bigger problems.
  • Keeping communal areas, bedrooms, gardens, and other areas of the home well maintained.
  • Supporting the team with planned preventative maintenance.
  • Helping ensure the environment is safe, clean, comfortable, and suitable for, to detail,
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
  • Good communication skills and a friendly approach.
  • A reliable and flexible attitude.
  • The ability to work respectfully within a care home environment.
  • Relevant maintenance, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or trade qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential.
  • Experience working in a care home, healthcare, hospitality, housing, or facilities environment would also be beneficial.
