Job summary

Kara Healthcare is seeking a Maintenance Person to support our care homes across the East Midlands. You will perform general maintenance, repairs, and safety checks to keep homes safe, comfortable and welcoming for residents, visitors and colleagues.

You'll work with Home Managers and care teams, respond to requests promptly, and maintain accurate records. A practical, organised approach and a flexible attitude are valued in this hands-on role.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a maintenance, handyman, facilities or similar role.
• Good practical and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of health and safety.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out general maintenance and repairs across care homes.
• Responding to maintenance requests and resolving issues promptly.
• Carrying out basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry or decorating work where competent.
• Carrying out regular checks of buildings, equipment and fittings.
• Identifying potential maintenance issues before they become bigger problems.
• Maintaining communal areas, bedrooms, gardens and other areas to a high standard.
• Reporting larger or specialist repairs to external contractors.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Maintenance Person, you'll be responsible for carrying out general maintenance and repairs across our care services.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out general repairs and maintenance around our care homes.
• Responding to maintenance requests and resolving issues promptly.
• Completing basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, decorating, and general repair work where competent.
• Carrying out regular checks of the building, equipment, fixtures and fittings.
• Identifying potential maintenance issues before they become bigger problems.
• Keeping communal areas, bedrooms, gardens and other areas of the home well maintained.
• Supporting the team with planned preventative maintenance.
• Helping ensure the environment is safe, clean, comfortable and suitable for residents.
• Maintaining accurate records of maintenance work completed.
• Reporting larger or specialist repairs when external contractors are required.
• Working with contractors and suppliers when necessary.
• Ensuring maintenance work is carried out safely and in line with relevant procedures.
• Supporting health and safety checks and helping maintain compliance.
• Responding to urgent maintenance issues when required.
• Helping with the set‑up and maintenance of rooms, equipment and facilities.
• Working closely with Home Managers and care teams to understand and resolve maintenance needs.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is practical, hardworking, and takes pride in doing a good job.

You'll ideally have:

• Previous experience in a maintenance, handyman, facilities or similar role.
• Good practical and problem‑solving skills.
• Confidence carrying out general repairs and maintenance.
• A good understanding of health and safety.
• The ability to identify issues and find practical solutions.
• Strong organisational skills.
• The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
• Good communication skills and a friendly approach.
• A reliable and flexible attitude.
• The ability to work respectfully within a care home environment.

Relevant maintenance, electrical, plumbing, carpentry or trade qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential.

Experience working in a care home, healthcare, hospitality, housing or facilities environment would also be beneficial.
