Job summary

Kara Healthcare is seeking a practical and reliable Maintenance Person to support our care homes across the North East. You’ll handle general maintenance, repairs, and regular checks to keep environments safe, comfortable and welcoming for residents, visitors and colleagues.

In this hands-on role you’ll work with Home Managers and care teams, perform basic repairs, identify issues early, maintain records, and coordinate with contractors as needed.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a maintenance, handyman, facilities, or similar role.
  • Good practical and problem-solving skills.
  • Confidence carrying out general repairs and maintenance.
  • A good understanding of health and safety.
  • The ability to identify issues and find practical solutions.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
  • Good communication skills and a friendly approach.
  • A reliable and flexible attitude.
  • The ability to work respectfully within a care home environment.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out general repairs and maintenance around our care homes.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and resolve issues promptly.
  • Complete basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, decorating, and general repair work where competent.
  • Carry out regular checks of the building, equipment, fixtures and fittings.
  • Identify potential maintenance issues before they become bigger problems.
  • Keeping communal areas, bedrooms, gardens, and other areas of the home well maintained.
  • Supporting the team with planned preventative maintenance.
  • Helping ensure the environment is safe, clean, comfortable and suitable for residents.
  • Maintaining accurate records of maintenance work completed.
  • Reporting larger or specialist repairs when external contractors are required.
  • Working with contractors and suppliers when necessary.
  • Ensuring maintenance work is carried out safely and in line with relevant procedures.
  • Supporting health and safety checks and helping maintain compliance.
  • Responding to urgent maintenance issues when required.
  • Helping with the set‑up and maintenance of rooms, equipment and facilities.
  • Working closely with Home Managers and care teams to understand and resolve maintenance needs.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Maintenance Person, you’ll be responsible for carrying out general maintenance and repairs across our care services.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is practical, hardworking, and takes pride in doing a good job.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a maintenance, handyman, facilities, or similar role.
