Job description

The key function is to support NHS Property Services in delivering building services maintenance and repairs across the NHS to ensure buildings are maintained to the highest standards and to provide a safe and secure environment for visitors, customers, and employees.

Main duties of the job

Ensure compliance with all processes, procedures, and policies that meet organisational standards, including but not limited to our Health & Safety Policy, HTMs (Health Technical Memoranda), and SFG20. Undertake routine planned and reactive maintenance as instructed by the Team Leader, supporting minor work activities. Perform routine repairs or minor works such as joinery, painting, decoration, general building works, ground works, or plumbing. Maintain accurate site log books at all NHS premises in a timely manner.

Job responsibilities

We are offering a position for a Maintenance Operative-Fabric based at Mitcham - Wilson Hospital, covering South West London. The role offers a starting salary from £28,000 (dependent on experience) plus on-call allowance. It is a permanent, full-time role working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Requirements include:

  • NVQ Level 2 or higher BTEC/City & Guilds or equivalent in carpentry and joinery.
  • Formal apprenticeship or craft-trained equivalent.

Additional requirements:

  • Valid driving licence.
  • Comfortable using technological devices for job logging.
  • On-call availability.
  • Industry experience is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating with other technical disciplines.

Note: DBS and DVLA checks are required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with NHSPS Health, Safety & Wellbeing Policies, technical guidance, and statutory regulations.
  • Deliver scheduled, reactive, and remedial maintenance as directed, maintaining operational standards.
  • Support minor capital works and projects.
  • Undertake routine repairs including joinery, painting, plumbing, and general building works.
  • Maintain accurate site log books.
  • Complete risk assessments prior to works and adhere to work permits and plans.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 2 or higher BTEC/City & Guilds or equivalent.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Experience
  • Experience in building maintenance and minor works.
  • Familiarity with method statements and permit to work.
  • Experience with services maintained to SFG20 standards.
