Huddersfield Grammar School is seeking a Maintenance Operative (Caretaker) to manage opening/closing, repairs, and site security. The role covers maintenance, health and safety checks, and supporting events to keep the site safe and welcoming for students, staff, and visitors.
The successful candidate will have practical maintenance skills, a driving licence, and the ability to work independently with good communication. The role is part-time on-site under a fixed-term contract until August 2027.

Salary: Up to £13,200.85 per annum (depending on experience)

We're looking for a proactive and reliable Maintenance Operative (Caretaker) to join our dedicated team and help ensure our school remains a safe, secure, and well-maintained place for students, staff, and visitors.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with maintenance, trades, facilities, or caretaking experience who enjoys a varied role where no two days are the same. From carrying out repairs and security checks to supporting school events and ensuring our grounds remain well-presented, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day operation of our school.
Opening and securing the school site and buildings.
Carrying out routine maintenance, minor repairs, and general upkeep tasks.
Conducting regular site security, health and safety, and compliance checks.
Setting and monitoring alarm systems and responding to security concerns.
Maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment across the school grounds.
Supporting school events, lettings, and activities outside core hours when required.
Reporting maintenance issues and assisting with planned preventative maintenance.
Working collaboratively with colleagues and contractors to maintain high standards across the site.
