Job summary

Cygnet at The Old Vicarage in Hungerford is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to ensure a safe, well-maintained hospital environment for residents, staff and visitors.

You will perform repairs, basic joinery, plumbing and general building tasks, and maintain plant, services and vehicles. A DBS check is required and a full driving licence is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in painting and decorating in indoor and outdoor environments.
• Full valid driving licence and willingness to travel.
• Ability to record detailed maintenance information accurately.
• Preferably Level 2 Diploma in Painting & Decorating/Maintenance.
• Candidate will undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Responsibilities

• Provide a comprehensive maintenance and repair service.
• Carry out basic joinery, plumbing, painting and general building work.
• Maintain plant, services and vehicles in working order.
• Comply with safe working practices and report faults or hazards.
• Travel to other sites and be on call for emergency repairs outside normal hours.
• Check fire alarm points weekly, including exits and emergency lights.

Cygnet Group is seeking a Maintenance Assistant / Maintenance Operative to join our team at The Old Vicarage. In this important role, you'll help ensure our hospital remains safe, secure and well maintained, creating the best possible environment for the people in our care, our colleagues and visitors.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a practical and proactive individual who takes pride in their work. From carrying out repairs and routine maintenance to helping maintain a high-quality healthcare environment, you'll play a key role in supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the hospital and contributing to positive patient experiences.

Working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday only, you'll enjoy a great work-life balance with no weekend working.

Choose from either an 8:00 am to 4:00 pm or 9:00 am to 5:00 pm shift pattern, providing consistency and flexibility to suit your lifestyle.

Your day-to-day…

• Provide a comprehensive maintenance & repair service
• Carry out a range of tasks including basic joinery, plumbing, painting & general building work
• Maintain plant, services & vehicles in working order
• Comply with safe working practices & report faulty equipment & potential hazards
• Travel to other sites & on‑occasions be on call to carry out emergency repairs outside of normal working hours
• Check the fire alarm points weekly, including fire exits, door retaining devices & fire emergency lights

You are…

• Experienced in all types of painting and decorating in both indoor and outdoor environments
• Willing to travel & hold a full valid driving licence
• Able to communicate at all levels & record detailed, accurate maintenance information
• Skilled at DIY & general maintenance
• Preferably Level 2 Diploma qualified in Painting & Decorating/Maintenance
• Friendly, conscientious & an excellent team member with a positive attitude
