Job summary

Cygnet Hospital Churchill in south London is seeking a part-time Maintenance Assistant to perform a range of day-to-day maintenance tasks to keep the hospital safe and functional. The role involves basic joinery, plumbing, painting and general building work within a 56-bed inpatient setting.

No formal qualifications are required, but a practical maintenance background and knowledge of health and safety are essential.

Qualifications

• General maintenance background with carpentry, plumbing or painting experience.
• Good knowledge of health and safety and safe working practices.
• Fluent English in verbal and written form.

Responsibilities

• Undertake day-to-day maintenance and planned remedial works to keep building and services in working order.
• Carry out basic joinery, plumbing, painting and general building tasks.
• Ensure equipment is clean and well maintained and report hazards.
• Check fire alarm points, fire exits and emergency lights; test portable appliances.
• Escort and manage contractors as required.

Cygnet Hospital Churchill, located in south London, is a 56 bed inpatient mental health hospital for men.

We are currently recruiting for apart time Maintenance Assistantto carry out a range of day-to-day maintenance duties on the fabric of the building, its services and grounds in order to ensure the hospital is maintained in a safe and efficient functional order.

No specific qualifications needed however applicants will need to have a general background of maintenance work i.e. carpentry, plumbing, painting and decorating, etc. and good knowledge of health and safety and safe working practices.

You’ll be workingpart-time 24 hours a week in a hospital setting.

You’re Day-to-Day…

• Undertake day-to-day maintenance and planned remedial works to keep building, plant, and services in working order, keeping records of call-outs and routine checks as directed.
• Carry out a range of tasks including basic joinery, plumbing, painting & general building work
• Ensure all equipment used is clean and well maintained.
• Comply with safe working practices & report faulty equipment and potential hazards
• Check the fire alarm points weekly, including fire exits, door retaining devices & fire emergency lights
• Test and record all portable appliances as specified in Group procedures.
• Escorting and managing contractors

We are looking for people who have…

• Previous experience working within a team and on your own in a maintenance / building contractors role.
• Previous experience of repairing of various equipment and materials, painting, decorating, plumbing, carpentry and basic wiring work.
• Ideally be a car driver due to the remote location of the Hospital.
• A working knowledge of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
• A good practical knowledge in basic plumbing would be an advantage.
• Fluent in the English Language both verbal and written
