Maintenance Manager

Job summary

ADM is seeking a shopfloor-focused maintenance leader to take day-to-day ownership of maintenance activities and drive safety, reliability and performance across the site. You will oversee the maintenance plan, respond to breakdowns, and deputise for the Engineering Manager when needed.

You will lead a hands-on team, coordinate daily operations, and work with Production, Quality, HSE and Planning to prioritise maintenance and improvements while ensuring compliance with HACCP, BRCGS and GMP

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading or supervising a maintenance/engineering team in manufacturing.
• Hands-on mechanical and electrical fault finding under pressure.
• Structured approach to problem solving and root cause analysis.
• Experience with planned and preventive maintenance systems (CMMS).
• Calm, decisive under breakdown conditions with clear communication.
• Strong stakeholder management across site functions.
• Leadership focused on coaching, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Food manufacturing standards: HACCP, BRCGS, GMP.
• Experience with packaging equipment, process plant and utilities.
• Contractor management and safe systems of work.
• Health & Safety qualifications: IOSH, NEBOSH.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the maintenance team daily, ensuring safe, planned work.
• Own the daily/weekly maintenance plan balancing planned/reactive work.
• Provide hands-on technical support to troubleshoot and restore plant.
• Drive reliability improvements with root-cause analysis and fixes.
• Ensure compliance with HSE, food safety and quality standards.
• Monitor downtime, PM compliance and repeat failures; drive actions.
• Collaborate with Production, Quality, HSE and Planning to align priorities.
• Manage contractors and ensure safe, compliant delivery of work.
• Support engineering projects and small capital improvements.
• Maintain CMMS records and manage spares/assets.
• Promote proactive maintenance culture across the site.

Job description

This is a shopfloor-focused leadership role where you'll take day-to-day ownership of maintenance activities, leading from the front and supporting your team to deliver high standards across safety, reliability and performance.

You'll coordinate the maintenance plan, respond to breakdowns, and work closely with production and site functions to ensure equipment availability meets operational needs. You'll also step up to deputise for the Engineering Manager when required.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead and coordinate the maintenance team on a daily basis, ensuring work is planned, prioritised and completed safely and effectively
• Take ownership of the daily and weekly maintenance plan, balancing planned, reactive and corrective work
• Provide hands-on technical support, troubleshooting equipment issues and restoring plant safely following breakdowns
• Drive improvements in equipment reliability, leading root-cause analysis and implementing long-term fixes
• Ensure full compliance with HSE, food safety and quality standards (including HACCP, BRCGS, GMP and UK regulations)
• Monitor key KPIs such as downtime, PM compliance and repeat failures, taking action to improve performance
• Work closely with Production, Quality, HSE and Planning teams to align maintenance priorities
• Manage contractors and ensure all work is safely controlled and completed to required standards
• Support engineering projects, modifications and small capital improvements
• Maintain accurate records within the CMMS and ensure effective management of spares and assets
• Promote a proactive maintenance culture focused on prevention, not just reaction

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience leading or supervising a maintenance or engineering team in a manufacturing environment (food, FMCG or process preferred)
• Strong hands-on mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills
• A practical, structured approach to problem-solving and root cause analysis
• Experience with planned and preventive maintenance systems (CMMS)
• Ability to stay calm and decisive under pressure, particularly during breakdowns
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across site functions
• A leadership style focused on coaching, accountability and continuous improvement
• Food manufacturing standards such as HACCP, BRCGS, GMP
• Experience with packaging equipment, process plant, utilities or automation
• Contractor management and safe systems of work
• Health & Safety qualifications (IOSH, NEBOSH)
