Job summary

Morgan Hunt currently requires a Maintenance Facilities Operative for FE College - East London. The role supports the Facilities Manager to keep the premises safe, clean, and presentable, and undertakes basic maintenance tasks including plumbing, electrical, painting and carpentry. Cross-campus deliveries are required, with a DBS certificate essential.

Location: East London. Hours: 35 hrs, 8am to 16:00pm, Mon to Fri. Pay rate: £18ph to £20ph PAYE. Duration: 3 months on-going contract.

Qualifications

• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
• Basic literacy, numeracy, and IT skills.
• Willingness to undertake role-related training, including health & safety, safeguarding, and facilities procedures.
• Relevant facilities, caretaking, or health & safety training.

Must have Enhanced Children DBS Certificate on update service or Happy to apply for DBS Certificate

Purpose of the Role

To support the Facilities Manager in keeping the premises safe, clean and presentable. Undertake basic maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, electrical, painting & decorating and carpentry tasks. Complete cross-campus deliveries.

Education & Qualifications

• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
• Basic literacy, numeracy, and IT skills.
• Willingness to undertake role-related training, including health & safety, safeguarding, and facilities procedures.
• Relevant facilities, caretaking, or health & safety training.

Experience

• Experience working in a facilities, estates, caretaking, maintenance, or support services environment.
• Experience supporting reactive maintenance, minor works, or general repairs.
• Experience of room set‑ups, portering, or event support, including exams or enrolment activities.
• Experience working in a busy, customer‑focused environment with changing priorities.

Knowledge, Skills & Behaviours

• Basic knowledge of facilities and estates services.
• Awareness of health & safety requirements, safe working practices, and incident reporting.
• Understanding of safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion within a college environment.
• Ability to carry out practical tasks, including minor works, redecorations, spill response, and portering.
• Good organisation, time-management, and communication skills.
• Ability to follow procedures and update records accurately using CAFM or service desk systems.
• Reliable, flexible, and conscientious, with a proactive and team-focused approach.
• Calm and professional when working under pressure, particularly during busy periods such as enrolment and exams.
