Shift Pattern: Mon-Fri

£35-£40ph Outside IR35

Gap technical are seeking an experienced Contract Electrical Maintenance Engineer to support a leading chemical manufacturing site. The successful candidate will be apprentice-trained, hold valid CompEx certification, and possess strong experience working in COMAH-regulated or chemical processing environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive electrical maintenance across site assets, including pumps, motors, control panels, and instrumentation.
  • Diagnose and rectify electrical faults quickly and safely to reduce downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with ATEX/DSEAR regulations, working safely in potentially explosive atmospheres.
  • Conduct inspections and testing of electrical systems and components, producing accurate documentation.
  • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment and upgrades.
  • Work closely with engineering, operations, and HSE teams to maintain site reliability and safety.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records in line with CMMS and site standards.

Requirements

  • Apprentice-trained Electrical Engineer (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
  • CompEx certification (Ex01 - Ex04) is essential.
  • Experience working within chemical, petrochemical, or pharmaceutical environments (ideally COMAH).
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills on a wide range of electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of ATEX zones, intrinsically safe equipment, and hazardous area classification.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and P&IDs.
  • Excellent awareness of health, safety, and environmental standards.

Desirable

  • 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations.
  • Previous experience working on instrumentation and/or PLC systems.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems
  • IOSH or equivalent HSE training.
