Job summary

Kingston Barnes Ltd are recruiting a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer for a busy FMCG manufacturing site in Dartford. You will perform planned maintenance, fix breakdowns and support improvement projects to maximise equipment reliability.

The role is days-based with a 4 on/4 off rotation and 12-hour shifts. A strong mechanical/electrical fault-finding background and an engineering apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 are highly regarded.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a multi-skilled maintenance engineer.
• Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
• Experience in FMCG/food manufacturing is advantageous.
• Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in a relevant discipline is preferred.
• Experience performing PPM and reactive repairs.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems and industrial production equipment.
• Proactive problem-solving with focus on reducing downtime.
• Strong communication and ability to work in a team.

The Role

We are currently recruiting for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established manufacturing business operating within a fast-paced production environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer looking for a days-based position within a busy and technically challenging manufacturing facility.

Working as part of an established engineering team, you will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance, responding to breakdowns and supporting continuous improvement initiatives to maximise equipment reliability and minimise production downtime.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of both mechanical and electrical maintenance, with previous experience working within an FMCG or similar manufacturing environment being highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across a range of production machinery and associated equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults to minimise production downtime.
• Respond to machinery breakdowns efficiently, ensuring production disruption is kept to a minimum.
• Conduct root cause analysis to identify recurring faults and implement long-term solutions.
• Maintain and repair equipment including conveyors, motors, gearboxes, bearings, pumps and associated production machinery.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
• Work closely with production teams to ensure machinery is operating safely and effectively.
• Assist with the management of engineering spare parts and maintenance records.
• Support machinery installations, upgrades and engineering improvement projects.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety procedures, including safe isolation and lockout/tagout practices.

The Ideal Candidate

• Previous experience as a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or similar.
• Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
• Experience working within an FMCG, food manufacturing, packaging or fast-paced production environment would be advantageous.
• A recognised engineering apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Experience carrying out both planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical components and industrial production equipment.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving, with a focus on continuous improvement and reducing downtime.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of an engineering team.
