Job description

Maintenance Electrician - Nottingham

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Electrician to join HMP Nottingham.

There will be a need to work weekends on a 1 in 3 rota basis, with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary.

The Electrician plays an important role in ensuring planned and reactive maintenance work within the prison is carried out safely, compliantly, and promptly.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, across 7 days where a weekend shift pattern is in place.

Responsibilities include:

1. Planned and preventative electrical maintenance.
2. Diagnosing and replacing failed domestic electrical components.
3. Responding to breakdowns, ensuring all works are carried out under the appropriate Safe System of Work and in a timely manner.
4. Fault finding and problem-solving on domestic electrical systems across the prison.
5. Undertaking electrical installation activities in accordance with provided designs and IET Wiring Regulations.
6. Testing and inspecting electrical installations as per current IEE wiring regulations.
7. Monitoring and ordering critical spares for all electrical services.

Candidate requirements:

• Appropriate technical qualifications such as City & Guilds 2365 parts 1-3, BTEC, NVQ level 3 or above.
• BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations, specifically 18th Edition.
• Experience in electrical maintenance, general distribution, installation, and testing.
• Knowledge of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
• Ability to work at heights.
• Qualified in 18th Edition (or willing to upgrade from 17th Edition, with sponsorship offered; terms and conditions apply).
• Experience in electrical maintenance within a commercial environment.

Desirable skills include IT proficiency, fire alarm systems, and CCTV systems, though training will be provided if necessary.
