We are looking for a knowledgeable and customer-focused Maintenance Controller to join our growing team. You'll play a key role in managing the maintenance and repair of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, ensuring repairs are authorised efficiently, costs are controlled, and customers receive an outstanding level of service.

You'll play a key role in managing the maintenance and repair of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, ensuring repairs are authorised efficiently, costs are controlled, and customers receive an outstanding level of service.

  • Review and authorise vehicle repairs in line with manufacturer servicing schedules, industry labour times, client authority levels, budgets, warranty conditions, vehicle history, and contract requirements.
  • Manage repair costs and individual budgets while ensuring all work complies with warranty guidelines.
  • Assess technical reports, diagnose mechanical issues, and make informed commercial decisions that balance customer needs with cost control.
  • Explain technical information clearly and confidently to customers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Build strong working relationships with customers, suppliers, and colleagues to ensure repairs are completed efficiently and professionally.
  • Respond promptly to work authorisation requests, helping minimise vehicle downtime.
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers to resolve queries and ensure repairs are completed within agreed timescales.
  • Handle telephone and email enquiries, providing excellent customer support throughout the repair process.
  • Carry out root cause analysis of vehicle component failures to identify trends and support continuous improvement.
  • Escalate complex issues and complaints in line with internal procedures.
  • Ensure departmental KPIs, including cost control, response times, and budget performance, are consistently achieved.
About You

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Previous experience as a Maintenance Controller, Workshop Controller, Service Advisor, or within a motor retailer service department.
  • Strong automotive technical knowledge and the ability to assess repair requirements confidently.
  • Excellent negotiation and decision-making skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to explain technical information in a simple, customer-friendly way.
  • A confident and professional telephone manner.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good computer literacy and the ability to work across multiple systems.
  • A proactive approach with excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • The ability to manage a busy workload while maintaining high standards of customer service.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Supporting customers, suppliers, and colleagues with technical and repair-related queries.
  • Managing repair authorisations from initial request through to completion.
  • Monitoring repair progress to ensure vehicles are back on the road as quickly as possible.
  • Maintaining strong relationships across our supplier network.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and contributing to product development where appropriate.
  • Following company procedures, quality standards, financial controls, and reporting requirements.
  • Providing support across the wider business as required.
