Job description

Equans is looking for a Maintenance Assistant to join our team in Blackburn at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

General Overview

The post holder will have the maintenance skills to ensure the safe and continuous operation of the site. Working within the response team and reporting to the Mechanical Supervisor and Mechanical Manager, they will undertake maintenance, repairs, and inspections of building services, fabric, fixtures, and fittings, in accordance with standards, procedures, legislation, and guidance.

The role involves:

1. Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on building services.
2. Responding to breakdown requests promptly.
3. Assisting with installation and minor upgrading works.
4. Fault finding on malfunctioning equipment.
5. Following safe working practices and operating tools safely.
6. Maintaining records of work performed.
7. Collaborating with colleagues and contractors to minimize disruption.
8. Undertaking training to maintain and develop skills.
9. Carrying out risk assessments and ensuring health and safety compliance.
10. Completing all required documentation accurately.
11. Performing other tasks as needed.

Impact

The Maintenance Response Operative is vital in maintaining the estate's operational efficiency, contributing to healthcare delivery by ensuring engineering systems function effectively.

Complexity

The role requires completing tasks within one's competence, with support from the Estates management team for specialized advice and complex engineering works.

Qualifications or Required Experience

• Experience in general maintenance and customer-facing roles.
• Healthcare environment experience and CAFM system knowledge are desirable.
• Experience with Mechanical Systems (DHW, LPHW, CHW) and electrical qualifications are advantageous.
