Job Description:

We're working on behalf of a leading global technology services provider to identify a Mainframe Pre-Sales Consultant to join their UK team. This role sits at the intersection of technical architecture and commercial strategy, supporting enterprise clients across sectors such as finance, government, and telecoms.

You’ll play a pivotal role in helping clients modernise, optimise, and manage their mainframe environments – from traditional z/OS platforms to hybrid cloud integration.

As a Mainframe Pre-Sales Consultant, you will partner closely with sales, delivery, and product teams to shape compelling, technically sound solutions for new and existing clients. You’ll engage early in the sales cycle, provide deep technical insight, and help translate business needs into scalable, secure infrastructure strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical discovery sessions with enterprise clients to understand existing mainframe estates and future-state requirements.
  • Design and position mainframe solutions (z/OS, DB2, CICS, IMS, MQ) across infrastructure, tooling, and managed services.
  • Support RFP/RFI responses with solution architecture, cost estimation, and proposal content.
  • Deliver product demos, workshops, and proof-of-concepts.
  • Collaborate with account teams, architects, and delivery leads to ensure solutions are viable and aligned with client goals.

Experience:

  • Solid experience in a mainframe-related role (e.g., systems engineering, technical pre-sales, infrastructure architecture).
  • Strong technical knowledge of z/OS, RACF, CICS, DB2, IMS, MQ, or related tooling.
  • Comfortable working in client-facing roles with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate complex infrastructure topics into business value.
  • Experience working in or with large systems integrators, technology vendors, or enterprise clients.
