Job summary

Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Locum Upper GI Consultant on a 1-year fixed term basis to cover maternity leave. The role involves elective Upper GI surgery and endoscopy across Bournemouth, Poole and Wimborne with a team of 7 Upper GI and 2 Emergency Surgeons.

The post holder will participate in the acute rota, contribute to MDTs, and be flexible to phase 3 Transformation plans affecting site distribution from April 2027.

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
• JAG-accredited endoscopist with experience in advanced endoscopic procedures (eg. Dilatations).
• Entry on GMC specialist register via CCT, CESR or ECR within 6 months.
• Trained to manage the undifferentiated general surgical take.
• Proficient in Upper GI endoscopy.
• Appropriate training at StR level for general & UGI surgery.

Responsibilities

• Provide Upper GI general surgical and endoscopy services across UHD sites.
• Participate in the acute surgical rota and on-call coverage as required.
