Job summary

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is seeking a Locum Consultant in Upper GI Surgery to support emergency upper GI services within the GI Surgical Clinical Management Group. The post involves involvement in the on-call rota, development of patient care pathways, and continued professional development.

The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality patient care, supervision of junior staff, teaching, and participation in clinical governance and audits, with focus on GMC

Qualifications

• Experience in emergency Upper GI surgery.
• Ability to work within clinical governance and on-call rota.
• Commitment to CPD and teaching as part of role.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, treat and manage patient care; ensure department runs smoothly.
• Cover colleagues' planned absences.
• Contribute to service development with Consultants, CMG, GPs and commissioners.
• Supervise and support junior staff; adhere to HR policies.
• Teach, train and assess medical staff at all levels.
• Participate in clinical governance, audits and CPD; attend mandatory meetings.
• Undertake managerial and financial duties as required.
• Maintain GMC and Trust standards in practice.
• Respond to Trust requests including incident or complaint investigations.
• Induction, appraisal, training and revalidation.
