Job summary

Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust in Cornwall is seeking a Consultant Upper GI Surgeon to lead high-quality elective and emergency Upper GI services. The role supports expanding bariatric surgery and embedding robotic-assisted techniques within a growing minimally invasive program.

The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team across Cornwall, contributing to clinical governance, teaching and ongoing service development, in a region known for its strong patient-centred care

Qualifications

Fully trained in Upper GI surgery and eligible for appointment at Consultant level.
Experienced in complex Upper GI surgery.
Ideally experienced in, or with a strong interest in, bariatric surgery.
Experienced in robotic surgery, or with demonstrable commitment to developing their robotic skills.

Responsibilities

Deliver a high-quality elective and emergency Upper GI surgical service.
Develop and expand their specialist interest in bariatric surgery.
Undertake and develop robotic-assisted surgical procedures as part of our evolving minimally invasive surgery programme.
Work closely with gastroenterology, oncology, radiology, anaesthetics, dietetics and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Contribute to service development, clinical governance, teaching and training.
Support the continued development of specialist Upper GI and bariatric pathways across Cornwall.
