Job summary

The London Borough of Hackney is seeking a motivated candidate for a 12-month fixed-term secondment in the Markets, Shop Fronts & Street Trading Service. The role combines licensing administration with creating social media content to promote traders and boost footfall.

The post is full-time and on-site during trading hours, including weekends and public holidays. Competency questions are used in assessment; CVs are not accepted.

Qualifications

• Administrative or licensing experience in complex public-facing settings
• High accuracy in handling records and financial reconciliations
• Experience with social media content creation and basic marketing would be beneficial
• Proficiency in Google Workspace and database tools
• Commitment to equality and inclusion

Responsibilities

• Deliver statutory licensing and registration functions under the London Local Authorities Act
• Issue and renew street trading licences within service timescales
• Maintain auditable digital database records
• Guide traders through the licensing process
• Reconcile licence payments and recover arrears with finance colleagues
• Prepare documentation for the Officer Licensing Panel and support compliance and enforcement teams
• Compile management statistics on occupancy and income
• Provide core administrative support across the service
• Work on-site during trading hours, including weekends and public holidays
• Plan, film, edit and publish content on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook
• Manage daily digital community interactions and highlight independent traders
• Mentor traders on online marketing and deliver climate and economic recovery campaigns
